Fearless Sticky Performance



Black Honey Company is a production house and cultural consultancy team that collaborate on and create fearless sticky performance. The company was established by award-winning South African Australian sisters, Writer/ Performer Candy Bowers and Composer/ Sound-Designer Kim Busty Beatz Bowers. The team has worked together for over 13 years on projects across the Music, Arts and Entertainment industry in Australia and around the World. 



Candy Bowers

HEADSHOT_Candy Bowers_1Candy Bowers is notorious for creating work that warms, cuts and tickles in equal parts. After graduating from the NIDA acting course in 2001 Candy teamed up Sarah Ward to create award-winning cult hip hop comedy act Sista She; Kim Busty Beatz Bowers (Musical Director/ Composer), DJ Jonah (Turntables) and Thomas Butt (Double Bass) completed the band (2002-2008). The group was prolific, winning early commissions from the Australia Council of the Arts and the Sydney Opera House, touring major Festivals across the country including Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Sydney Festival and Edinburgh Fringe Festival in the UK. In 2008 Candy picked up the British Council of the Arts Realise Your Dream Award and was named in the Top 100 Creative Catalysts List (Vivid Festival). In 2009 she was nominated for the Phillip Parsons Young Playwright Award and won the Best Performance Award at the Melbourne Fringe for her first one-woman show Who’s that Chik? She went on to write the music comedy smash hit Australian Booty and toured to Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Darwin Festival, Brisbane Powerhouse and Campbelltown Arts Centre. A playwright, poet and lyricist Candy has been featured in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney Poetry events, winning the Cairns City Australian Poetry Slam and going on to Host Slams throughout the Nation. Candy performed at the 2013 TEDx South Bank Women event and is a regular at Women of Letters, the letter she delivered at Thornbury Theatre feature in the book Yours Truly (Penguin 2013.) Candy was recently awarded the 2013 Cultural Leadership grant from the Australia Council for the Arts and the 2013 NIDA Glorias Fellowship. Candy will take up a skills development program across London, Chicago and South Africa in 2014-15.


Kim Busty Beatz Bowers

Musical Director | Composer | Sound Designer

BustyBeatz_ HeadShotKim Bowers aka Busty Beatz has been making music and theatre for over 20 years. Starting early Kim signed her first record deal in 1992 (Half A Cow Records) with her High School Indie band Spdfgh. A decade worth of touring, recording and festivals has been immortalized via her contribution to the Big Day Out book Peace, Love and Brown Rice by Sophie Howarth and her place in Women Who Rock exhibition. As a freelance Beats Producer and Hip Hop Artist Kim has worked with the likes of Bone Thugs’ n’ Harmony, Screamfeeder, Def Poetry Jam, Ben Lee, Powderfinger and Sista She. Her film credits include, collaborating on the soundtrack for 1999 film Fresh Air directed by Neil Mansfield and Lawrence Lim’s award winning short Eleven. Her music also features in cult Australian films Love and Other Catastrophes and The Well.  As a Sound Designer and Composer for Theatre she has worked with Belvoir St Theatre, Queensland Theatre Company, ATYP, The Escapists and I.C.E in collaboration with Sydney Festival on the International Hip Hop Theatre project East London/ West Sydney (directed by UK pioneer Jonzi D.) Kim has also created sound for Circus and Dance Theatre including: Polytoxic, Flipside, Strut’n’Fret and is currently the resident Musical Director for the internationally acclaimed boylesque show Briefs (on tour across Europe.) Alongside co-creating and performing in Black Honey Company productions Kim is an infamous DJ and Sound Artist leading audiences onto the dance floor at major Festivals including Brisbane Festival, Darwin Festival, Sydney Festival, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival, Melbourne Fringe Festival and Edinburgh Fringe Festival.


Daniel Anderson

Artistic Associate | Lighting Designer | Scenographer

IMG_9220-BW_LowResDaniel was nominated for a Matilda Award in 2012 for the Bille Brown Award: Best Emerging Artist, holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Technical Production) from the Queensland University of Technology and has completed a Broadway Lighting Master Class by Live Design in New York City. Daniel has also been awarded an ArtStart Grant from the Australia Council of the Arts, and has completed the Kape Communications Bite the Big Apple Arts & Culture Management Tour in New York City. Daniel’s commitment to the industry has seen him work as a lighting designer for theatre, dance, cityscapes, and arts festivals. Daniel was the lighting designer for Brisbane’s 2013 fireworks spectacular Sunsuper Riverfire. Daniel has since gone on to design the first themed lighting display on Brisbane’s Story Bridge for Christmas in 2013, as well as the lighting display for New Year’s Eve. Daniel has also worked extensively as an Associate Lighting Designer.
